Lanna
Resort, Hangdong
Lanna Resort is conveniently situated, not too far from Chiang Mai.
It is surrounded by beautiful mountains, by a river, the gardens are
lovely. Staff were very nice, food excellent. Very quiet (except for
some night parties nearby!). The houses were pleasant, clean. We would
have loved to have a kettle to make some coffee in the morning as
we tend to wake up early, and breakfast isn t before 7am. We would
have liked some drinks in the fridge apart from the two bottles of
water. And the shower could be slightly more modern. But apart from
this, it s great! |

Room clean and well-equiped, gardens lovely. The resort is out of
town in a peaceful area. Not the place to stay if you want the city
experience, but it was perfect for a restful night prior to flying
from Chiang Mai. |

The hotel settings are beautiful and the atmosphere relaxing. Either
than that, nothing much to do. Prices are slightly elevated and the
food is far from exceptionnal. |

The hotel grounds are beautiful and well-tended. What a pity the same
care is not given to the maintenance of the rooms! The room was spacious,
but very run-down. They have a major problem with subsidence in the
buildings near the river - the living room and bathroom both sloped
towards the bathroom. There were large cracks in the floors. The electrical
wiring in the bedroom was dangerous. The overhead light and the bedside
light flickered on and off when you walked across the floor. The restaurant
served a good breakfast and dinners, but you had to put your order
in by 8 p.m, as the kitchen closed at 9 p.m. There is no alternative
eating facility in the vicinity. If you do not have your own car,
transport is a problem. The resort is about 40 minutes away from Chiang
Mai town, and no transport is provided by the resort. Chiang Mai taxis
are reluctant to go there, as there is little prospect of them picking
up a return fare. There is a small shop in the village nearby, but
access to the village is currently impeded by the building of a dam/weir
- you have to climb over the earthworks. Staff were helpful. Even
though we had paid for 8 nights stay, we left after 4 nights, as we
found the lack of transport too inconvenient. |

Lanna Resort, Hangdong
Beautiful, open-feeling setting with picturesque trees, well-maintained
lanna style huts, large pool (where I was the ONLY swimmer) all with
a backdrop of lush, green hills. Shot nearly an entire roll of film
just on the surroundings. Large bedroom with adjoining living area/tv,
linked by a bathroom with tub/shower. Pleasant, accommodating staff.
Large selection in covered but open-air restaurant with reasonable
prices. A definite winner on the valley loop. |

This resort is well out of town and does not offer the free airport
and town transfer as indicated on the internet site. If you do not
have your own transport it will cost you 3500 Bt transfer each way
or 1500 Bt for a vehicle for the whole day. There is little activity
at the resort itself. The staff is friendly and the restaurant OK. |

The North is different. So is Lanna Resort. But the Service is typical
Thai: very, very good. The Garden at the Resort is so beautiful with
all the flowers. As it was `Winter` it got a bit chilly at night.
Can certainly recommend Lanna Resort. It is a pity that it is about
30km outside Chiang Mai. Otherwise, a very nice place to stay and
inexpensive. |
