Rimkok
Resort Hotel, Chiangrai-Thatorn Road

This hotel calls itself The treasure of the North I would call it
the sunken treasure of the north awaiting rediscovery .The setting
and pool area is magnificient but sadly thats where it all stops .In
most cases the staff are unfriendly and unhelpful but there are exceptions
. The toilet system needs a total overhaul and many tourists complaimed
of toilets not flushing well .Cold water for showering is another
major setback for this worn out old hotel .The breakfast is really
bad compared with most other hotels we have stayed in Thailand . This
is the very worst hotel we have ever stayed at in Thailand and we
certainly would not stay here again . |

Excellent resort. A massive place right on the river. Good if you
want to spend a relaxing time and spend majority of your time in the
resort. Loaction is a big problem as there is no public transport
within walking distance. You have to rely on the bus service which
must be pre booked (and by the way is not free).I found this a bit
of a problem. The resort itself is excellent. |

Once a beautiful hotel is now broken down and musty. Front desk staff
was terrible. Trying to upgrade to a suite we were told there were
no suites ( later found out via travel agency there were ) the suite
was much bigger but the smell was so bad we thought twice about staying.
Plumbing was broken. No way into town except hotel minibus which is
double the price it costs to get a tuk-tuk and they say it runs once
an hour ( if you are lucky ) and then they oversell the seats and
you may get stuck waiting for another hour. Get to breakfast very
early or you will find the food all cold and very little left. Overall
a poorly run resort with so much potential. |

The best value of any hotel you can find at Chiang Rai. The only minus
the hotel ist little far from the city center but you can enjoy the
nice location at the river. |

Very worn out. The lobby & its services are like a ghost town until
the tour busses return in the evening. The ONLY way to go to & from
town is via the Rimkok s shuttle which costs 60baht per person. The
shuttle to the airport is 80baht. The food is so-so and the buffet
is mobbed by the tour bus people until about 7:30. Then the dining
room is dirty and they are slow to clean up. Staff is indifferent
to the point of rudeness, bed was uncomfortable, and the room s industrial
style carpet was badly worn. The only good thing was the pool, although
it s pretty chilly being unheated. |

intimidation of the guests! It was for the second time we stayed there,
and also the last time! This time we where with 3 persons, and had
a reservation for 3 beds. By arriving, the room was not ready, and
only 2 beds in it. After a while (1 hour) the came with the 3th bed....
A stretcher for a child, max 1.70 meter. No problem for a child, but
we are almost 2 meter each ! Explaining that that is not possible,
and had a reservation for a BED !, the housekeeping did not understand
what we mean. I moved the stretcher by myself out the room, and asked
for the manager to solve this problem. After one hour... Again...
they came with the stretcher again ! And again I moved it personal
out of the room. The only solution they had at that moment, was offering
a other room... for 1800 Baht extra ! Out of the question, was our
answer ! In the mean time the clock shows 1 o'clock in the morning,
and then the gived us the other room for FREE. Nice... at least we
can sleep. Next day we had a excursion, and in that time, they moved
the 3th person out of the extra room, and in our room again... with...
a STRETCHER again ! You can understand what our thoughts at that moment
was... i can ensure you, that a stretcher indeed can fly!!! After
a phone-call, the ensure me that they will solve the problem... again.
After a few hours, 3 "strong" thai-men stand for the door, and asked
what the problem was... It was very impressive to see that, but...
they forgot that we are also with 3 persons, and... almost 2 meters
long!!! After we all stand-up, and I can tell you, that looks very
scary ! the 3 thai-man goes away, and within 15 minutes we had a extra
BED in the room! Well, I hope u understand, that it was the last time
for me/us that we stayed in Rimkok resort! |

overall good hotel although would benefit some repainting outside.
There are several long wings in the hotel, with lots of rooms. wings
3,4,5,6 are better as they face river. The other wings face each other
(not as good). Rooms have 2 single bed configuration. extra bed (foldable)
on request (600 bath extra. For a family of 4+, 2 rooms are needed.
Staff was nice as they did their best to change wings for my family
(hotel was nearly full). indoor restaurant a bit depressing. use shuttle
instead to City Center(every hour, 60 baths/person round trip). Bkfst
ok. overall good value for the money. quite a lot of mosquitoes, due
to the river They have a carrental office in the main lobby. Very
practical. You can get a van with driver for 1400 Bath/day w/o gasoline
They have massage rooms in the lobby. |
