First
Villa, Ao Ban Tai
The setting is beautiful, right on the sea. There s not too much going
on locally though so for a good night out head into Haad Rin. It s
approx 10-15 minutes taxi ride but I would recommend walking out to
the road and flagging 1 down as the hotel charges more for a proper
air-con mini-bus and it can be a bit intermitent (probably better
high season). If you re brave enough to ride a scooter (I wasn t)
this must be the best way to get about. Whatever you do don t hire
a jeep though, the roads are a nightmare and you need a scooter or
a proper sturdy vehice to tackle them, it s a bad move believe me.
We went for the Full Moon party then booked another hotel in Haad
Rin for a few days after but all in all First Villa was nice, tidy
and although it can sometimes be a little difficult to comunicate
with the staff, they were all friendly and helpful and the thai food
and breakfast was good. |

The accommodations were excellent. It was a bit of a scary trip to
get there with the hills, but all in all worthwhile. Additionally,
the food was excellent and the staff very courteous. I would definitely
go back if the opportunity arose. |

Situated down a very bumpy dirt road and run by people that can barely
understand English (reception couldnt even give me Bangkok Airport
s phone number!!) and quite a distance from Haad Rin which if going
to full moon party it is expensive to get to by taxi, I WOULD NOT
STAY AT THIS HOTEL AGAIN!! The in room TV also only has 3 religious
channels and a fashion channel so if you spend a day in bed sick like
i did, its not much good to you. Lovely view of the sunset and nice
pool but thats about it. |

This place is sooo overpriced! First let me start with positives:
1) Rooms were big with a nice view to the ocean. 2) Beautiful property
with a great pool Now the negatives: 1)Cable never worked 2)Service
was horrible! On our first day we ordered lunch...ended up waiting
for an hour! There were 3 of us...so our dishes came one at a time!
And the restaurant wasn t even full! Two days in...I ordered a coffee
by the pool. The lady (perhaps the owner and the only one who spoke
english) took my order. After 20 minutes..I still didn t receive my
coffee. Meanwhile..she s serving lunch to the other guests! (who also
complained that the food took too long). So you can see there s a
backlog of orders. I finally received my coffee only because I flagged
her down. When it did arrive...she forgot the sugar! We never ate
at the resort for this reason. Food in tong sala was much better and
cheaper! 3) Resort needs to replace all deck chairs. Half were broken
and held together by ocean rocks to keep them standing! 4)The road
leading to the resort desperately needs to be paved! Thank goodness
our stay was only 3 days. It s a shame...this resort almost had it
all. |

We do feel First Villa was a bit overpriced for what you got but it
was pretty.. the gardens and pool area made it very special specially
at sunset. The food and service left much to be desired. Overall we
did have a lovely time there.. very quiet and relaxed atmosphere..
good to get away from Haad Rin after the fullmoon party to a tranquil
vibe. Thanks...! |

This was another gem that we found. A beautiful tranquil outlook over
the straights to Koh Samui, but far away enough from the other resorts
to be quiet and relaxing. Staff were very pleasant, especially the
owner, who was very caring and motherly when advising us on the way
of the land at the Full Moon Party. The hotel massage service was
also great. Would definitly stay there again. |

If you re looking for a calm and serene setting, look no further;
if you re looking to party, keep looking. This is the ideal spot for
a young family or couple to come spend a week at. The food is good
but not cheap, and same with the cocktails, so First Villas has effectively
priced backpackers and college students away (which is exactly what
some people want). The rooms were very well maintained and the pool
was immaculate. Friendly staff, too. |

First Villa is a lovely place where nobody seem to know how to run
a hotel business. The capacity of the kitchen is very poor, if you
order the dinner you ll have it just before breakfast. We have to
keep in mind that we where 11 people in our group, including 5 children,
from 8 to 15 years old. |

Accom was ok for price paid, staff wasn t very helpful. asked for
a cab into town and told it was a 10 minute walk. wasn t too happy
to see the hotel bus pass us on the way into town, after we d just
left. FYI - its about a 45 minute walk to thong sala..would recommend
this place if you don t want to go anywhere and aren t too fussed
about a beach. |
