The
Beach Boutique House, Kata Beach
I was fortunate to book this new hotel for 1400 Bahts a night near
Kata Beach less than 24 hours before I arrived Phuket while most other
similar hotels were fully booked in Sawadee Website during this high
season. I like this hotel because it is not on a hill and about a
10 minute walk to the busy beach. However, the direct path is an alley
with a view of many infested insects in or near still water. There
are no bathrooms at the beach or other beaches that I have heard.
You have to pay for beach chairs you rent at this and Karon Beach,
which the latter I like better because it seems to be cleaner and
more comfortable just to sit there and watch the beach in the morning.
Club Med, an ellegant 5-star hotel just across the street from the
beach is within walking distance. Most taxi drivers do not know where
the Beach Boutique House is. It is good to tell the driver that it
is located in the new Beach Center before Club Med (just turn left
at the Grill and Hotel on the left hand side before reaching Club
Med). There are bars, hotels and restaurants within walking distances.
Taxi is expensive for 400 Bahts to Patong Beach, and 800 Baht to the
airport. Please note that the organized taxi from the airport only
charges less than 500 Bahts to this hotel. After sunset you may have
to settle for a Tuk-tuk when a taxi may not be available. Taxi is
more comfortable because it has air condition and charges are the
same as tuk-tuk. I wanted to stay at Karon Beach before booking because
it is more centrally located but I could not find a hotel there during
this busy season. But if we did stay at Karon, probably we would not
have enjoyed this new and quiet place like Beach Boutique House. I
was told by a travel agent that 40% occupancy are by returnees. The
exterior of the hotel is neat with decorative lighting and breakfast
has some variable items but you have to chase away flies especially
if you don t go there when it first opens in the morning. Sometimes
the Internet does not work and the front desk did not direct me to
go another place but I have found it nearby anyway where a young lady
speaks good English and helps me to print in color for lesser charge.
She told me stories about the Tsunami that had occurred on December
26, 2004 when the whole area was covered by a 2-meterred deep sea
water. The hotel across the narrow street has a swimming pool but
no Internet, but I was told I could not use the pool there but can
use one down the road when it opens in the future. The constuctions
just next door is not too noisy and we enjoy the scenery of mountain
views especially in the morning while the construction is at its infancy.
It is expected to have more hotels and businesses and less quietness
in the near future as it is now at this new beach center. Inside the
small room is great and clean -- everything being brand new but with
limited cabinet space. The overhead fan does not work but we were
given a chance to move to another room. But no matter because the
air condition is more than adequate. The bed is big enough for two
people and comforatble. The staff is friendly as usual in Thailand.
The Fantaxy Show at Kamela Beach is OK with too-numerous-to-count
spectators and long lines. No cameras are allowed in the showroom
and you need to check in your cameras before you go inside. It is
always good to have a Thai speaking companion. Phi Phi Island is nice
for swimming but we did not see bright color corals while snorkeling.
Racha Island is better than Coral Island as the businesses on the
latter seem deserted as one German tourist told me that the cooks
there played soccer instead of cooking at peak lunch hours. Speed
boat to the two islands gave us strong pounding motion therefore eat
less breakfast if you have a sensitive stomach. Cheaper snorkling
tours charge extra for using the fins and their constant checking
for damages of the masks provide distraction and spoil the fun. I
think we paid about 1500 Bahts per person for this tour. Be prepared
to walk 20 minutes each way across the island to go to lunch. Sand
can get into your slippers. To go there we departed from the dirty
water at Chalong Bay located at the East side of Phuket Island. We
had to step into the dirty bay water befor boarding the speed boat.
I don t want to go there again. I missed the Phang Nga tour as my
young travelling coompanion needed a rest because of lack of sleep
at busy schedule. Pisona is the only tour company I have found to
offer late pick up to go to Phi Phi Island at your hotel around 11:00
AM to accomodate late arrivals at Phuket. Phuket can break your pocket
book. Bangla Road looks like day and night literally. The strong air
conditioned show upstairs really is not worth the entry fee because
it only gives cheap sexy scenes with too many artifical bodies. All
and all it is just great. Enjoy your stay at Phuket as we certainly
have. |

The Beach Boutique House, Kata Beach
Very good hotel! Like an oasis in an otherwise dirty neighbourhood.
The room was clean, the bathroom was clean and the hotel complex was
clean. After staying at 5 other hotels in Thailand on the same vacation,
I can say that this was definitely the best! One complaint: The wake
up call came 1 hour to late... |
