Colin Kay  2007-01-24 until 2007-01-31	Karona Resort & Spa, Karon Beach We stayed based on mostly good reviews. Hotel is OK, rooms are OK, close to beach easy walk. But the area is a bit boring. Hotel mainly seems to cater to Scandinavian market. Better to stay in Patong at good hotel close to beach then use tuk tuk vans to go on day trips to near-by beaches. Kata beach is beautiful (as are most on phuket). If you want to party - stay in Patong.

The food was excellent and the location was perfect with a calm surrounding and very close to the beach and shopping. The wiew from the wonderful room was exceptionel. I hope to be able to return soon again. My children also enjoyed the pool area very much.

David Johnson  2004-10-17 until 2004-10-22	Karona Resort & Spa, Karon Beach My stay at Karona resort was very pleasant. A smaller well run resort some 1 minute from a good beach that has umbrellas ready to rent at 100b. Another review mentioned hard beds but I only note fairly firm but fine. I have stayed twice at this resort. Most Thai beds will be fairly firm (consider the locals sleep on a hard surface. Rooms are like a miniature Spa room and very artistically done with 4star bath and bedroom facilities. TV has many channels to choose from. Pool are very nice so you can cool off their or walk to beach and rent a chair. This hotel is located right on the entrance to the Kata business district which has been improved but still lacks adequate sidewalks, This area is fine for families and has a lot of good restaurants and shopping- Too many tailors though! If you want night life you need to stay in Patong Beach as it is a 200b 15min taxi ride away. The outrageous (for thai) taxis charge 200b Patong and 100b for any local distance. Other options are walking (too hot and too far) and renting a motorbike for 200b daily. Breakfast was buffet and well stocked. But beware ordering Fried Eggs as they burn them every time. Order scrambled or Omelet and watch that they dont overcook. Everybody seems to take turns at the egg bar-the real problem is the stove is too hot. All staff are excellent and helpful.
