Renaissance Koh Samui Resort & Spa, Lamai Beach
This was a lovely hotel with charming and attentative staff. We were upgraded to a pool villa on arrival but chose the Deluxe Sea view which we had booked which demonstartes the high standard of accomadation here. Lovely touch with the fresh towels as they were shaped into creative animals and placed on your bed every day. Only criticism is that the drinks were quite expensive - particularly the wine - we did try some good thai wine else where and dont know why they dont serve more at reasonable prices as house wine. Great lap pool if you are feeling energetic, although the beach benefits from a great sunset and happy hour cocktails. Great for those looking for peace and relaxation, but only a 10minute can ride to the bustle of Chaweng.

The hotel was exactly what we expected. Extremely clean and comfortable. Beautiful rooms and landscaping. Service was very friendly and efficient. Staff went out of their way to remember you and your preferences. Quality of food and drinks was excellent. This is not a hotel for those who have difficulty walking; there are a lot of steps and stairs especially if you are staying in the deluxe building. The beach was unattractive. The tide was out most of the time, although we understand this is not the case all year. The main pool was very attractive although a little short on seating. Having said this every effort was made to find sunbeds for guests and there was none of that nonsense of guests arriving early and dumping there belongings to reserve seats. It probably helps that many of the villas have their own pools. I think the hotel should designate the lap pool as a quiet or adults only pool. It would make sense as it is too deep for young children and it would be an added benefit for adults looking for some relaxation. More umbrellas are needed at the lap pool. We would definitely return to this hotel.

Buriraya Resort & Spa, Lamai Beach
Quite simply the best hotel in Koh Samui. I previously stayed at the Santiburi hotel on my previous visit 2 years ago, and spent 3 nights in the Sila Evason (very disappointing- very poor value) before going to the Buriraya. All staff were most helpful and friendly, and the Lamai beach was great, easily the best in Samui. Having walked down Chaweng beach during the day, I can t understand why anyone would want to stay on that part- overcrowded, dirty, and too many fat women going topless, which i felt was very disrespectful. Thank God for Lamai beach! Buriraya is a 5 star hotel, no question about it, the villas were heavenly, we managed to stay in the pool villa, which i would recommend if you want some privacy, or simply to refresh yourself after say a day shopping/touring etc. The courtesy afternoon tea delivered to your villa was a very nice touch indeed. There were plenty of options for food, and we were lucky enough to be the only ones at the seafood restaurant on our final night, overlooking the sea from the hill top, taking in the sunset and then fireworks from a nearby bar. Breakfast was great in the morning too. Having been hugely disappointed with the Sila Evason (way overpriced, poorly designed villas and hotel set-up, definitely not a 5 star) I was so pleased at what we received at the Buriraya. I would definitely go back to this hotel in the future.

We had a fabulous stay. The hotel was spotless and classy, the staff were very helpful and friendly. Fabulous views. We would not hesitate in recommending this hotel. Cannot wait to return to this part of paradise again.

Hotel facilities are excellent. Staff is friendly. Beach is very disappointing. For the price I would expect everything to be first class, including the beach.

Although not fully completed eg spa and gym, this resort was excellent. The accommodation was out of this world and the customer service was equally as good. I would highly recommend this resort to any other traveller - easily on par with Tongsai Bay if not better.
