Resort, Chaweng Beach
We stayed in this resort 3 years ago & were very disappointed with
our recent visit. The general upkeep of the resort in the interim
period has been very poor. A couple of examples follow- 1) The pool
jacuzzi did not work & an open hole with electrical wires was exposed
2) The patio rail of our bungalow had been removed leaving reinforcing
metal exposed & potentially dangerous. 3) The retaining wall on the
beachside looked as if it had been damaged by the sea. Lumps of rubble
with sharp remained on the beach. On arrival we were sorry to see
that the reception was dirty & flower arrangements had died but not
removed. Dead petals littered the floor. Daily cleaning of the accommodation
was scant. On the positive side the breakfasts were good & varied
& the restaurant staff very friendly & helpful. Like wise the housekeeping
staff. It seems as if the training & general management & oversight
of the resort is lacking. What makes the resort worth staying at is
the beach & proximity to the town & all it has to offer. By choice
we would not stay here again. |

It was all in all a a very positive stay. We liked the beach a lot,
the breakfast was excellent and the bungalow suitable. The crew at
reception and leaning ladies were most helpful and kind. The garden
was beautiful and though it seemed a great task - kept very well by
the gardeners. It must be hard to attend such a huge and thick greenery:)
The location is perfect. However, let me have some remarks that maybe
do not inquire so much financial efforts but would higly increase
the comfort of an European traveller. We realize that for such a money
we won t get new, but.... We haven t had hot water in our bungalow
even when - according to the sign-we kept the A/C on... I would heve
been a little bit happier if the inner white walls of our bungalow
weren t marked with dirt stains and the curtain of the bed wasn t
torn, but let s say- mended:) We could have also imagined that the
reception building is kept a bit more clean as it is the first impression
a traveler gets and the bungalows are much better tended, but that
turns out only later if one gets till there. I realize that it is
hard to keep the dust away in the dry season and because of lack of
rain dirt is in the air especially on the street front, but it would
higly increase the trust of the newcomer. One more thing: the flooring
of stairs at the garden showers must be repared!!! It s hard to step
on under the shower on such a rough surface!!! Anyway, if we go next
time, we ll choose you again:) I ve seen some nice beaches in my life
but yours could be the most beautiful, BUT clean it of plastics, bottles
other mess and cigarette ends, beacuse other beaches are much better
at that!!! I know it is not only your responsibility but the joint
effort of all the hotels on the beach, but it would pay back it soon:)

Decent enough bungalows for the price but bring plenty of insect repellant.

Chaweng Resort was a pleasant stay, however in need of maintenance
to bring it up to good quality standards. The remodel that was being
done while we stayed there was ongoing and noisy all the time, especially
at breakfast. The resort should have notified the guests as a courtesy.
The breakfast was nice, but the morning staff lacked smiles on their
faces. The dining room lacked atmosphere, music would have helped
the mood. The umbrellas were in poor shape and should be replaced as
the poles were rusted off and only a meter or so in height. The Bungalow
was nice, private, but lacked maintenance to bring it up to standards
of a Quality resort. The curtains were old and barely covered the
window area, the door to the bathroom dragged the floor, the shower
had black mold visible and the windows were not able to close completly
letting cool air out. On a scale of one to ten. Chaweng Resort would
recieve a six in my opinion. |

10TH TIME IN THAILAND (MAINLAND AND ISLANDS) AND 2ND TIME IN KOH SAMUI.
I STARTED WRITING BUT IT BECAME TWO PAGES SO I VE DECIDED TO SUMMARIZE.
1. CHECK IN. FAIRLY EASY AND THEY ACCEPTED THE VOUCHER. BUT NOT THE
USUAL PLEASANT RECEPTION. 2. WE BOOKED 3 ROOMS. 2 DELUXE GARDEN VIEW
AND 1 GARDEN SUITE. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THE GARDEN SUITE, ALTHOUGH
IT LOOKS GREAT WHEN YOU FIRST ENTER. IT S A DUPLEX (AIRCONDITIONED
ONLY IN THE BEDROOM ON THE 2ND FLOOR) OTHER AREAS ARE COOLED BY CEILING
FANS (WITH THE HEAT AND THE HUMIDITY, YOU CAN HARDLY USE ANY OF THE
FANNED ROOMS). BALCONY OF BEDROOM IS LOCKED ALTHOUGH THEY HAVE SUNBEDS
THERE. RECEPTION REFUSED TO OPEN. BATHROOM NEAR BEDROOM ON 2ND FLOOR
HAS A SHOWER AND TOILET BUT NO SINK, SO IF YOU WANT TO WASH YOUR HANDS
OR TEETH YOU VE GOT TO GO DOWNSTAIRS. IT MUST BE THE SEASON AS THEY
HAVE SWARMS OF FLIES AT NIGHT AS THEY MANAGED TO ENTER INTO EVERY
CRACK INTO THE ROOM EVERY DAY AT SUNSET (EVEN THOUGH WE WERE AWAY
TOURING). TOILET LEAKED, SHOWER CLOGGED AND OVERFLOWED. NO ATTEMPT
TO FIX. 3. BREAKFAST. NOT MUCH OF A VARIETY. STAFF DID NOT UNDERSTAND
ENGLISH EXCEPT ONE PERSON (IF YOU CAN FIND HER). YOU TRY TO EXPLAIN
HOW TO MAKE AN OMELETTE;)I WAS TEMPTED TO COOK IT MYSELF 15 MINUTES
LATER. 4. CLEANLINESS. THE CLEANING LADIES WERE GREAT & VERY HELPFUL.
FASTER SERVICE COULD BE ACHIEVED BY A LITTLE TIPPING AS WELL. 5. GENERAL
LOCATION. GREAT. NEAR THE TOWN, NEAR THE BEACH, THE SWIMMING POOL
COULD BE BIGGER AND CLEANER, BUT WHO CARES IF YOU HAVE THE SEA. POOL
BAR SERVICE NEARLY NON EXISTENT. 5. I LEFT RECEPTION AND GENERAL SERVICES
PROVIDED BY THE HOTEL AS LAST. IT WAS A NIGHTMARE. THE RECEPTIONISTS
WERE RUDE, UNHELPFUL, AND THE GENERAL SERVICES PROVIDED BY THEM WOULD
CONSTITUTE A ZERO STAR HOTEL. THEIR GENERAL RESPONSE TO EVERY THING
THAT IS WRONG IN THE ROOM IS NO CAN DO TONIGHT, COME BACK TOMORROW
OR IF IT S DAY TIME NO CAN DO NOW, COME BACK TONIGHT AND IF YOU ARGUE,
IT S YOU NO POLITE, GO BACK AND THEN IGNORE YOU OR SLAM THE PHONE
IF YOU ARE CALLING THEM, AND REFUSE TO ANSWER AGAIN IF YOU ATTEMPT
TO CALL AGAIN. I HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE SAFE (WHICH BY THE WAY IS IN
THE BATHROOM), FLOOD IN THE BATHROOM, SWARM OF FLIES IN THE ROOMS,
STOLEN PLANTS, WHICH WE BOUGHT FROM GARDEN NURSERIES TO BE TAKEN BACK
TO OUR COUNTRY, AND SENT ALONG WITH THE PORTER (AND A BIG TIP) TO
TAKE TO THE ROOM (WHICH CONVENIENTLY MAGICALLY REAPPEARED 1 HOUR LATER
WHEN WE THREATENED TO REPORT), AND THE BEST... THE DAY OF DEPARTURE.
INSTEAD OF ORDERING THE ONE MINIVAN FOR ALL 3 ROOMS (6 PERSONS)AS
WE REQUESTED, THEY DECIDED WE NEEDED 3 MINIVANS @ 1000 BATT EACH FOR
EACH ROOM. WHEN WE EXPLAINED WE NEEDED ONLY 1 (WHICH ACTUALLY CARRIES
ABOUT 10 PAX) THEY ARGUED IN THAI, THREW OUR BAGS IN THE STREET, AND
SAID THEIR USUAL... NO CAN DO, 3 VAN OR NO VAN AND THEY LEFT. WHEN
TRYING TO SEEK ASSISTANCE AT THE RECEPTION, HE ALSO LOOKED AWAY AND
SAID NO CAN DO, YOU WANT CAR GO OUTSIDE. VERY UNHELPFUL AND RUDE.
THANKFULLY, WE MET THE SECURITY MAN AT THE HOTEL OUTSIDE WHO IS A
GEM. AND HE HELPED US FIND 3 TAXIS THAT WE WERE ABLE TO MAKE IT TO
THE AIRPORT IN PLENTY OF TIME (AND AL 3 CAME CHEAPER THAN ONE VAN).
WOULDN T RECOMMEND THIS HOTEL TO MY WORST ENEMY.THANKFULLY, IT WAS
NOT ONLY ME WHO WAS EXPERIENCING ALL THESE PROBLEMS BUT ALSO MY OTHER
FRIENDS AND ALSO, 2 OTHER COUPLES WE MET THAT JUST CHECKED IN A DAY
BEFORE WE TRAVELLED. SO THAT MEANS I MUST NOT HAVE BEEN IMAGINING
THEIR ATTITUDE. THEY TOO MAY BE WRITING THEIR COMMENTS WHEN THEY COME
BACK. I FEEL SORRY FOR HOTELS WHO HIRE HELP WITHOUT SUPERVISING THEM.
THROUGHOUT OUR STAY, I HAVE NOT SEEN A MANAGER ON DUTY (ALTHOUGH I
CONTINUOUSLY ASKED TO SEE THE MANAGER). KOH SAMUI IS A LOVELY ISLAND
THAT THRIVES ON TOURISM. I STRONGLY SUGGEST THEY MAKE SOME EFFORT
TO RECTIFY THESE PROBLEMS, OTHERWISE TOURISTS WILL FIND OTHER MORE
WELCOMING COUNTRIES TO GO TO. |

The bungalows were really good. After booking read all the comments
made by others and was slightly apprehensive about the accomodation.
However, they were spot on. Yes the towels and sheets were gray, but
they were clean and always changed daily. We had three bungalows and
although all were different they all had good bathrooms and brilliant
beds. The staff were very helpful and always willing to go the extra
mile. Would definately recommend it and would return. My only advice
would be to go deluxe or above. Think the views alrady given must
have been in respect of standard rooms. |

The beachfront villas have excellent location and nice verandah, and
the main room is fine: huge canopy bed (though little other furniture,
no bedside lights). BUT the bathroom is rather run down and the drains
smell a bit. Breakfast is good. Satisfactory for a few days, but not
sure I could recommend it given all the competition. Buri Rasa is
obviously more expensive, but in a different league altogether. The
location is also not ideal, bit of a long slog to the centre (eg Starbucks/Ark
bar)(30 mins along the sand) |

The bungalow was large with a double and single bed and large bathroom.
Tea making facilities, fridge and hairdryer were provided which was
nice. Clean but interior of bungalow could do with refurbishing. Pool,
sunbeds etc good. Good choice for breakfast. Right on beach. Good
value for money - I would stay there again. |

Hi All. This was our 2nd stay at Chaweng Resort so we must like it.The
decor & ammenities are a bit dated. It is on the best part of the
beach & close to any shops that you could require. We had a superior
room that has a spa , there was no way that I was going to but my
Ass anywhere near it.Staff very freindly. A good place to Holiday. |
