Coral Bay Resort, Chaweng Beach
Our second time back here, and the resort itself reatains most of its charm - the accomodation is excellent and the staff equally so. One major issue though...the building work on a new resort complex currently underway next door was pretty intrusive - JCBs and heavy trucks working on the beach can t be anything but intrusive, and the current works have cut the beach off making it all but impossible to walk along the beach to the main area of Chaweng beach. It also made the walk along the road in the evening somewhat more dangerous, with heavy trucks charging around, as the workers appeared to be working on the site until midnight and beyond. Add to this the current works that the hotel is undertaking to demolish and replace it s own beach bar and a certain amount of the tranquility is most definitely lost. This didn t ruin our break - in fact we would certainly return - but not without checking first with Coral Bay that the works had been completed....the signs indicated an opening date for the next door resort of December 2007, but it looked a lot further away from completion than that.

Coral Bay Resort, Chaweng Beach
Coral Bay Resort is located on the Northern, secluded end of Chaweng Beach. We liked being in a quieter area, but within a short taxi ride of all the great restaurants in Chaweng (Recommend Eat Sense and Zico s - a fabulous Brazilian Barbecue). The Resort has a great restaurant with a wide selection and good breakfast buffet. The Pool is not large, but there is a shallow children s section. The Resort is on a secluded bay with a beautiful view. There is coral in the water that makes it a little difficult to wade at times, but the water is so clear that it was not hard to walk around the coral and out to the nice sandbar - around the sandbar the sand was very soft and water very shallow for quite a ways, perfect for our two year old to run around and splash. Plenty of beach chairs. We stayed in the Deluxe Family Bungalow with my wife s parents in one room and us in the other. We really liked our rooms, very spacious (even with our son s portable crib), and the bathrooms were spacious as well. The staff, especially the manager (Peter), were very friendly and helpful. Would also like to mention that directly across from the entrance to the resort is O.A. Travel - we used them for all our taxi, laundry, touring needs and they were fantastic and cheaper. Just got their card and called their cell phone if we needed a ride into or out of town. Very convenient. Also, this resort is next door to the Nora resort, whose restaurant is also quite good and convenient to walk to. Lastly, there was construction next door to Coral Bay while we were there, but it did not disturb us at all.

as always i was overjoyed to be back at the quiet private spacious and comfort of coral bay resort where i found everyone helpful friendly and warm...coral bay has easy 3 minute access to the bustling chaweng beach but feels like a little luxury in a remote island paradise...oh it is....highly recommend if u love thai bungalows and beautiful gardens...mary bruce

Beautiful resort, very quiet and relaxing. Bungalows were fantastic and the gardens surrounding the property were amazing. Easy to rent a scooter or catch a cab to take you into Chaweng, if you so desire.

My friend & I had the most relaxing time at Coral Bay Resort. We were well looked after by the friendly staff and had our every request catered for but were still left alone to enjoy whatever we wanted to do. The facilites are great & the bungalows are spacious & clean with wonderful verandahs just made for cocktails at sunset. I came away feeling very relaxed and refreshed.

Lovely resort away from the bustle of Chaweng Beach ,never felt busy,(although whether new rooms being built will change this)with beautiful gardens. We had the family delux bungalow 1and 2 which were right at the front of the resort looking on the fantastic bay.The sand was not as good as Chaweng but we spent more time round great pool. The restaurant was not great and service was rather slow at breakfast but they are the only negatives. We had a lovely 4 days there and would recommend it as a resort for those wanting a quite but beautiful place to relax.

Excellent Hotel. We had our wedding there, and many friends and families also stayed there. However, call me a cynic, but I felt that we were constantly overcharged for all services, food, drinks etc. Being yet another Western tourist, the perception was that because we earned more, we would be charged farang rate. This seems to go on all over Samui and a lot of Thailand, and in my humble oppinion, could lead to reduced tourism in the longer term (which Thailand relies heavily on), as people go on holiday to relax, not get overcharged and forced into constant bartering. Perhaps though, I am being unfair in these comments with relation to Coral Bay, as I believe it is the best resort in Chaweng.

this is the 3rd time I have stayed at Coral Bay, each time taking friends who are as charmed as I. The bungelows are wonderful and the staff very friendly, helpful and attentive. The restaurants and poolside bar are great. The entire property is spotlessly clean and tidy. This year, with the opening of the new Spa, we missed the little couple on the beach who did shoreline massage. The spa is a wonderful value and addition. The only downside to the entire place are the rocks off the beach as you approach the water. Having watersocks or a float woule be avoid the discomfort of approaching the water. I ll be back.

Coral Bay Resort, Chaweng Beach
A rare treat to find that the Coral Bay Resort was exactly as described on the Sawadee.com page. Nice clean spacious chalets in lovely mature gardens, the menu and food available here was as good if not better than other places visited in nearby Chaweng, 5 minute taxi ride. The staff at Coral Bay were friendly and the service was very good, the beach was the best in the immediate area. An ideal place for those who want to be relatively close to Chaweng but far enough from the crowds.
