Samui
Orchid Resort, Laem Set Beach
We had 5 good days at Samui Orchid Resort. Nice and clean rooms, but
linnen could have been changed! Fine and long beach, clean in front
off the resort, only few resorts along the beach, and a good walk
by the beach to the muslim fisher-village. Good beach if you like
kite-boarding, and the wind is right. But no restaurant in the evening,
but free shuttle to Lamai running the day, last trip back at 20.15
is too early - Remember to tell the reception if you want to use the
shuttle from Lamai to resort. Zoo and aquarium is ok, but do not choose
the resort because of that. |

Samui Orchid Resort, Laem Set Beach
We stayed here for 4 nights, we had 2 adjoining bungalows with our
own plunge pool and after being in bangkok for 5 nights it was a good
place to unwind before moving on to our final destination. We chose
this resort as my daughter wanted to visit the zoo & aquarium and
swim with the sea lions. She had a wonderful experience with the sea
lions but in the aquarium we were distressed at how small the tanks
were, especially for the larger fish. We are also concerned about
the Bengal tigers and leopard show. As the tigers are now at threat
from extinction, perhaps it is time that a new home can be found for
them so they can be spared from performing circus tricks. This resort
is very quiet & peaceful and is ideal if you just need to recharge
your batteries for a few days. It has a lovely long beach, a perfect
beach if you are into kite boarding but not so good for swimming!
The two good size swimming pools, with plenty of sun beds made up
for this. The staff were all very friendly and Jess on reception always
went beyond her duties to help you. Something that needs to be taken
in to consideration when booking this resort is that it is a little
remote and as the beach bar/resturant closes at 1800 if you want to
have a meal or a drink you needed to make your way into nearby Lamai.
The resort offered a free shuttle to Lamai at certain times of the
day but its last trip back at 2015 is to early. |

Samui Orchid Resort, Laem Set Beach
We stayed in a 2 bed deluxe with our own pool. The rooms were very
nice, although the bed was a bit hard. The staff were very friendly
and accomodating. The animals were lovely and seemed in good health
and well cared for. We especially enjoyed seeing the baby leopard
and being able to pet it. Although it is a bit of a way from the towns,
(there is a free taxi service to Lamai) if you want a quiet, relaxing
time I would definately reccomend the Samui Orchid Resort. We had
a fantastic time!! |

Samui Orchid Resort, Laem Set Beach
I stayed here with my 3yo daughter, which was ideal for a number of
reasons, being right on the beach, with a zoo and aquarium onsite
(free entry for guests) and two fantastic pools. Staff were friendly
and efficient. Only downside was being some way from the central area
of Lamai beach, but there is a shuttle run by the staff which was
adequate. The rooms were spacious, comfortable and clean, good value.
There is a superb genuine Thai restaurant called M Best Friend down
the road and staff will drop you there and pick you up - the BEST
Thai food I had all trip. |

Samui Orchid Resort, Laem Set Beach
We stayed at this hotel for 6 days at the end of a action packed holiday
in Thailand and picked it as we wanted something comfortable and peaceful
with a swimming pool. We were not disapointed! This place seems to
be almost a secret is is so quiet. we had 2 large swimming pools and
more sun beds than the 8 of us could ever use. We booked 4 rooms in
the main building and they were fabulous. 2 of them had a double and
single bed and the other 2 had good size singles. The beds were very
comfortable and the room very large plus fairly powerful hot water
showers and AC and TV. We also had breakfast included and this was
a real advantage as this resort is not close to anywhere else to eat.
There is a free taxi service to Lamai which we made use of in the
evening but it was necessary to get a taxi back as the last taxi back
is at 8.15. Another big advantage for us was that there was free entry
to the Aquarium and tiger zoo. Our teens and kids went every day and
fed the turtles and stroked the leopard sharks!!! The staff were on
the whole friendly and fairly helpful but we did get the feeling that
when we ordered food it was more trouble that we were worth. The snack
bar is only open untill 8pm and the food was not great so we usually
went to Lamai or asked the taxi to drop us at M frindly restaurant
on the road to Lamai about 5 mins drive,(the restaurant will take
you back to the hotel after you have eaten and the food there was
good. Especially recomended is the pina colada in a whole coconut!!)
It was blissful lying by the pool looking at the view of palm trees
and the sea and we were at the pool from 10 till about 4pm without
anyone else on most days, just incredible! |

Samui Orchid Resort, Laem Set Beach
Looking for a place to stay with my family (my wife Sylvia, my kids
Dorothea and Max)I had surfed sawadee.com and found the Samui Orchid
Resort. Although previous reports were not so good, we chose the resort
because of the advertised privacy and the beach that was ideal for
small children (ours are 8 and 6 years old). Booking via internet
wasnīt a problem at all and the staff was very helpful and patient
with my numerous questions via e-mail. We arrived at Samui in the
evening after a really long time with several stops and delays, starting
from Hamburg, and were picked up at the ariport by the hotel driver.
We quickly checked in and our luggage was brought to our bungalow
where we put the children to sleep and that was what they did the
moment they touched their pillows. I was too wired to sleep, so Sylvia
and I stayed up, enjoyed our first bath in the private pool of our
luxurious bungalow and went down to the beach for a first quick look
around. We stayed there for 12 nights and the reception staff was
friendly enough to let us stay in our bungalow until 6 p.m. the day
we left which was very kind because you usually check out around noon.
Most of the time there werenīt many other tourists which suited us
fine, the beach was impeccably clean and indeed very good for children
because the water is very shallow for at least 30 meters before it
gets deep. There were two big pools for us to use day and night and
the children loved to join the the show at the zoo almost every day.
We didnīt mind at all, having lots of time without children. The visit
to the aquarium and the show were free for hotel guests. My daughter
was deeply in love with the otters whereas Max favoured the tigers
and they both enjoyed swimming with the sea lions a lot. Through the
children, we became friends with the manager of the resort and his
family who had come from Germany six months ago. My first visit to
Samui was 20 years ago and although as a backpacker I have never stayed
in a resort of this class, the first thing I had noticed was the friendly
staff. Like many other tourists, I was never impressed with the service
of the Thai staff who didnīt seem to be interested in guests returning,
but this Thai stuff was different: they were smiling, attentive and
most helpful in every possible way, thanks to the German managerīs
training. The estate was well kept with a lot of busy gardeners and
all buildings and rooms had been recently renovated, so everything
was in perfect condition and I often caught myself thinking, while
gazing over the pool at the beach, that this was too good to be true.
The nights were really quiet as we were well away from the noise and
the crowds of Chaweng and Lamai, but there were plenty of free transports
to and from both locations and we used them quite a lot for shopping
and several visits of a fantastic tailor from India who really improved
our wardrobe for a very reasonable price. There were a lot of nice
restaurants close by and my children loved to eat at the Ocean Cafe
where the Thai cook was friendly enough to let me watch her prepare
the food for us and learn a few new things. We would have loved to
stay longer because everything was just perfect for us, but weīll
return for sure. |

The hotel is a litle old, but the beach is great, better than Chaweng.
But is very quiet, and they are renovating. No Problem.. |

So much potential.......a magic wand is needed. Staff should try smiling.
They do have a shuttle to Lamai for those that want to shop, see nightlife
and eat pizza. Great pools, lots of space, nice clean beach, very
relaxing. Great for families and those that want to unwind quietly.

Samui Orchid Resort, Laem Set Beach
Our family really enjoyed our stay. We were there for 1 week and would
definitely recommend it, especially to families, but also for couples
looking for a little privacy. Being away from the disco party atmosphere
of Chaweng and having quiet, peaceful nights were great. The drawback
of being away from downtown, was outweighed by the benefits. We did
rent a suzuki jeep close by for 900 baht one day to explored the island.
We also got a motorbike close by (walking distance) for 200 baht a
day, which allowed us to run into town for things, explore, etc. If
you want a nice place with a great pool right on the beach, without
all the noise and traffic of the nightlife, at an affordable price,
Samui Orchid is the place to go. If you want to be where all the people
and action are, look for something on Chaweng. We enjoyed the helpful
staff, the restaurant, bird and tiger show, walks on the beach, the
pool (at any hour!), and watching kiteboarding. We definitely feel
that Samui is a great place and a good bargain. The only drawback
is having to drive so far when you want to go in to Chaweng. There
are lots of nice restaurants closer, though. |
